Finding Your Focus #4

Finding Your Focus #4

Greetings In Christ!

Running to win, running this race, and running with perseverance are phrases you’ll find used in the bible by Paul and the writer of Hebrews. In order to succeed, runners must block out all distractions from what’s happening in their periphery and focus completely on the goal of finishing and winning the race. The best runners are not just physically fast; they are incredibly disciplined, and they know how to train their bodies and minds to fully focus on the race before them.

Focus is the key to success; as with runners in the natural, focus is the key to success, the key to finishing our race without becoming weary and giving up.In reference to 1 Corinthians 9; consider that earthly runners cultivate disciplined and focused lives in order to win an earthly crown, how much more eager should we be to focus our lives in order to win an incorruptible crown?
This Week:..Fix Your Focus On Jesus

The writer of Hebrews encourages us to focus on God and His vision for our lives. Focusing on God will enable us to throw off all the distractions that try to hinder us from running our race successfully.  In the NIV, Hebrews 12 specifically highlights patience and the inward life as keys to running well (success); “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Perseverance, or patience, is simply the ability to not give up when the race seems long and difficult. Impatience is rooted in self-will, while patience waits for God’s will in God’s timing. It is impossible for us to run our race with God while being impatient, because impatience will cause us to rush ahead of God. Patience is really a matter of trust, and the truth is, we can trust Him. In Hebrews it says, ” God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them” (Heb. 6:10). This promise of God’s faithfulness to us is followed by a command to persevere in patience so that we will be able to run our race (live or lives) to completion and inherit all God has planned for us.
Be Prepared To Learn About…

Learn how important the inward life is to our focus and spiritual success, in other words, our focus must not be merely on the task God has placed before us but on Jesus Himself. Ultimately He is our goal. Communion with Him and the fulfillment of His will are the finish line we run toward. If our focus is on anything else, we will be prone to running according to our own strength and understanding and, as a result, missing out on God’s will for our lives.
